Writing up a doctoral dissertation (PhD thesis)
Definition:
As noted in the introduction to this section, a doctoral dissertation (PhD thesis) is typically required in order to achieve the PhD title. Institutions typically have guidelines for formatting theses at the institutional level (e.g. layout templates). No one system exists guaranteeing success of the dissertation writing process, and mentees should view the writing tasks as a "capstone" of their academic experience and, should they choose to stay in academia, as a calling card for future employers which will stay with them throughout their careers. Thus, dissertation writers should strive for excellence, if they aim for international research careers.
